Engineering Support Specialist/ Senior – Field Support

Our Electric Advanced Design team is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Field Technician. You will be able to contribute to multiple projects supporting our electric transmission, distribution, and substations engineers. If you are proficient with AutoCAD design and have experience supporting infrastructure projects related to utilities, manufacturing, or construction, we want to hear from you!

This position is being posted at multiple levels. A combination of your education, experience, and skills will determine which level you are starting at.

Engineering Support Specialist: $71,905/yr. to $84,593/yr.

Engineering Support Specialist Senior: $79,295/yr. to $93,287/yr.

Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Distribution Field Support:

• Provide support to Distribution Engineers in conducting research on existing electric infrastructure, both electronically and in the field, accessing vaults and equipment with the assistance of a qualified worker, and documenting existing field conditions
• Provide support to Distribution Engineers in the SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) process. This involves coordinating with several groups both internally and externally to obtain locates, conduct potholing, documenting findings and capturing survey data, and providing information back to engineering.
• Provide support to Distribution Engineers and Construction Crews by supporting projects in the construction phase – identify, assess, and resolve issues during onsite construction and make recommendations based on the design packet and project priorities, involving Engineers when needed
• Ensure that as-builts and proper documentation of construction projects are provided
• Support Distribution Engineers by communicating any work change directives and necessary change orders with the Engineers and the Project Manager
• Conducting field site assessments, staking, and final field checks in potentially hazardous situations around energized lines and equipment and combustible commodities, and inspecting the construction, installation, and maintenance of facilities, service lines, and equipment
• Determining access needs, surveys, and negotiating with property owners; obtaining right-of-way easements and researching titles to determine ownership
• Escorts and coordinates work with locators who are not allowed in substations

General:

• Provide support to internal line crews, including material recommendations, damage assessments, and inventory coordination
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Electrical Engineers, Designers, Field Engineering, Civil/Structural, and many additional internal & external departments
• Visit project sites and work with field teams to develop solutions and corresponding designs
• Work with internal and external sources to get designs fabricated, reserve or procure materials, and monitor delivery to the sites
• Review contracts and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering and material standards
• Monitor outside consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, bid proposals, and obligations
• Support QC to monitor contractor’s safety, performance, and quality of work, and address any deficiencies during the project as they arise

Physical Requirements:

• VERY HEAVY WORK: Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions :

• Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
