Job Summary

North Anna Power Station located near Mineral; Virginia is looking for a Civil or Mechanical Engineering intern to work in its Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) Engineering department the summer of 2024. The SLR Team is working on a large Project Portfolio to upgrade / retrofit the plant to extend the viable generation of carbon free electricity for an additional 20 years, from the current license end at year 60 to year 80.  Job duties will include but not limited to:

Support the development of high quality and technically sound Engineering Change Packages (EC) in accordance with the Nuclear Industry Standard Design Process (SDP) to provide engineered plant improvements to the nuclear operating plant and solutions to operations and maintenance problems which ensure long-term equipment reliability. This position requires engagement and intrusiveness with Engineering vendors, Corporate Engineering, station stakeholders and implementing personnel throughout all design and implementing phases of the nuclear plant modification.

Support the preparation/revision/review of calculations in support of engineering products. Support the preparation and revision of specifications for the procurement of new or replacement mechanical and electrical equipment and interface with vendors to resolve technical matters. Support the preparation/review of engineering studies to evaluate design related system operational problems and/or recommended equipment/system replacements in order to provide technically sound engineering solutions. Provide routine technical support for design-related issues in construction, maintenance, and operations which may include the development of engineering technical evaluations. Ability to provide oversight of Engineering vendors of choice (EOC- vendors) to ensure the best quality product and most cost-effective solution that's in the best interest of Dominion Energy to operate the nuclear units for an additional 20 years to year 2060.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering program at a four-year college or university

Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Must be a rising sophomore or junior have an anticipated graduation date of no sooner than December 2025
