*Please note this is a TEMPORARY, part-time 10% FTE position. The person selected for this position will be hired for a period not to exceed eleven (11) months.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provide relief and emergency coverage at all Durham County Library locations.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends and have reliable transportation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent customer service utilizing automated systems at all service points, including the children’s, teens and information desks, computer areas, circulation and possibly on the Bookmobile or Tech Mobile.
- Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for customers via phone, online chat, email and in person.
- Assist the public in the use of library resources and equipment, including online catalog and online resources.
- Perform a variety of duties that include, but are not limited to, issuing new library cards, processing reserves, collecting fees, shelving books, retrieving books from shelves, emptying book drops and checking in materials.
- Interprets library policies and procedures to the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of current library policies, procedures and materials.
- Skill with library technology
- Sufficient keyboard experience to use automated systems effectively.
- Ability to use personal computers, word processing software and email.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and interpret library rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment.
- Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages.
- Ability to establish and maintain pleasant and effective working relationships with other employees and library patrons.
- Ability to work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties.
- Commitment to excellence in customer service.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of customer service, clerical support or related experience preferred.
