About the role

Overview

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced High Power & RF Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the high power systems that make up Nusano’s production platforms, primarily its Linear accelerator. These (may) include pulsed magnet power supplies, ion source high voltage circuits, and radiofrequency systems that drive the Linac. The two main RF systems are each composed of a klystron, modulator, circulator with up to 2MW peak and 300kW average power at 325 MHz. These systems require specialized knowledge in high power RF design and operation. High availability of these systems is a must for Nusano to meet its radioisotope production goals. Future responsibilities in this discipline may include Nusano’s next generation particle production and radioisotope separation machines.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Active participation within the team that designs, develops and maintains the high power and RF systems, ensuring that it meets performance and reliability requirements.
  • Work with technical staff to develop and implement procedures for systems operation and maintenance.
  • Participate in systems testing and evaluation to ensure that design specifications are met.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with the high-power RF system and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for the high-power RF system, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and procedures.
  • Work with external vendors to procure and integrate high power RF components and systems.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with established safety protocols and regulations.
  • Keep up to date with new developments and technologies in high power and RF engineering and related disciplines.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and technical staff to develop and implement improvements to the systems and associated components.
  • As requested, perform discipline-related calculations, simulations, and analyses.
  • Perform other duties as mutually agreed upon with your supervisor.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with, and at least 3 years of demonstrated experience of, high voltage/high current and high-power RF systems including their testing and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of high-power RF principles and components, especially klystrons, modulators, and circulators.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosis.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of requisite safety protocols and regulations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated operational/hands-on experience at a particle accelerator-based facility, including troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with EPICS-based controls.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working knowledge of modeling and simulation codes commonly used for electrical engineering such as Matlab, SPICE, ETAP.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working in a radiation-producing facility.
  • Must be comfortable working with high voltage/high current and RF-producing equipment.
  • Work to be conducted in both an office environment, laboratories, and production environment.
