SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Patient Care Technician assists nursing and clinical staff with the preparation and maintenance of the perioperative work areas. The also assists nursing staff to maintain scheduled patient flow.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


(1) Transports patients safely to and from the surgical areas, monitors patients during transport for changes and reports any patient or transport events after patient is moved to an area.

(2) Prepares patient care areas and gurneys for safe and sanitary patient use. This involves wiping down all surfaces and stretchers between each patient.  

(3) Assists in assigning patients to their respective areas to ensure efficient and safe patient flow.

(4) Assists in transfer of patient from stretcher to operating table and vice versa.  

(5) Transports items for sterile processing.

(6) Ensures proper sterile processing of Radiofrequency Probes according to manufacturer’s instructions.

(7) Checks sterile packaging for expiration, package integrity and signs of contamination

(8) Maintains Basic Life Support Certification.

(9) Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS


The position requires a high school diploma or educational equivalent. Two (2) years of prior clinic experience is preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS


This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are expected to include 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required. The position operates in a professional office environment and the incumbent, in the course of performing this position, spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, driving, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and reaching. The incumbent operates all standard office equipment, motor vehicles, and mobile phones. The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
