Staff Software Engineer, Commerce & Payments (Remote)

A critical area for ezCater’s growth over the next three years will be expanding beyond Catering towards servicing the full spectrum of corporate Food for Work needs. From new marketplace category offerings to financial products, ezCater will grow to be the central Food for Work provider for companies large and small over the next several years. Experimenting into all of this at pace will require a rock-solid foundation of financial and payment capabilities powering a wide variety of different ways of doing business. 

As the technical leader in this domain, you’ll be setting our direction for years to come on these topics and a number of other fundamental tech capabilities, helping ezCater to grow its engineering backbone and setting us up for the long haul. In addition to this, you’ll be a key driving force behind growing our engineering organization through mentorship and coaching of other technical leaders, establishing and rolling out technical and architectural standards, and contributing to an inclusive and transparent culture.

 

What You'll Do:

• Design and develop a brand new enterprise commerce system, with a specific focus on interoperability, stability, and scale
• Set architecture standards and coach engineers of all levels through building and managing the platforms and systems you are accountable for
• Define the strategy for managing our backend commerce and pricing technology and data quality, including sourcing and integrating best-in-class vendors where appropriate

• Put engineering design principles into practice as we modularize our backend platform, and help to apply them in data engineering and machine learning use cases

• Be a visionary leader providing guidance and mentorship to your teammates across the organization
• Raise the bar for software quality, backend architecture, and expectations of what is achievable within the engineering organization

What You Have:

• 7+ years of professional development experience, ideally using Ruby on Rails
• A distributed systems mindset, and experience working both with service oriented architectures and monolithic applications
• A background in commerce systems, ideally in a consumer or enterprise software environment
• A strong appetite for learning, and an ability to leverage what you learn to make our products better
• Excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation skills, and a drive to produce quality documentation
• An eagerness and willingness to give and receive feedback, because we all love learning from each other
• A friendly, flexible and pragmatic disposition

Preferred:

• Experience with telemetry systems (e.g. Datadog, Sentry)
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming data platforms (e.g Kafka)
• Experience with orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience integrating with various third party APIs

 

The national cash compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $227,000 year*
