YMCA in Westfield - Child Care Aide

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Child Care Aide is responsible for assisting the Director in carrying out the Before and After School Program at the specified school, which may include involvement with School’s Out Camp and other special events.  She/he will be responsible for leading program activities, snack preparation, homework assistance, and communicating effectively with the children, their parents, and school personnel when needed.

KNOW HOW

• Is at least 16 years old.
• Understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior and development.
• Specific knowledge in crafts, sports, games and/or leading group discussions/activities.
• Maintain current First-Aid certification, Child Abuse Prevention training, and Safety & Risk Management training and other training determined by Site or Program Director.
• Knows and uses age-appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Warm and friendly personality and the willingness to work/play with children.
• Understands and accepts the YMCA’s goals and philosophy.
