Shift/Workdays and Hours: Variable (includes evenings and some weekends)

Responsible for teaching introductory level dance classes for children and young adults. Must have experience with multiple dance styles and techniques, which may include ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and/or cheerleading and tumbling.
Job Duties
  • Create lesson plans/curriculum.
  • Assist, develop, and facilitate a safe, successful and ultimately fun dance class.
  • Work with and teach young children dance techniques and styles.
  • Communicate effectively, written and verbally, with students, parents and coworkers.
  • Actively listen to customers and address any concerns or needs.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with others; individually and in a team environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy which reflects the mission of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills & Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of dance styles and techniques.
  • One (1) year of college education, work/volunteer experience with school age children, courses in recreation, education, psychology, or sociology preferred.

Other Information

  • Must pass a background check
  • Applicants will be required to work evenings and some weekends.
  • This is not a KPERS covered position.
  • This is a seasonal position and hours will vary according to operational need.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work will be performed at a variety of City locations and majority of work is performed inside a climate-controlled facility.
  • Noise level and activity level will be varied.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time, dance, speak, climb stairs, push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
