40Position Summary
The Lead Navigator will support the implementation of Project ARKβs HIV/STI testing, substance use and misuse services navigation and other HIV/STI prevention-related programs. The position will engage in both direct service delivery and administrative activities to support the HIV/STI prevention program. This position will be a focused effort on the coordination and delivery of HIV/STI prevention services for racial-minority youth, specifically young men who have sex with men and transgender women. This position will assist persons with identified barriers to HIV prevention by providing referrals and linkage to internal Project ARK/SPOT services and external community resources. This position will have a strong knowledge of evidence-based HIV/STI prevention, human sexuality, and positive youth development. This position will also discuss scientifically accurate safer sex and prevention strategies with diverse populations. The position will work closely with the Project ARK/SPOT prevention leadership staff to ensure HIV/STI prevention services are delivered in accordance with grant requirements and organizational goals and policies.This role will have experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds, along with a demonstrated commitment to cultural competence and the delivery of culturally responsive health care. Working hours may include evenings and weekends, as necessary.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
HIV/STI Testing Services
- Conduct HIV/STI screening and sexual health counseling to diverse youth and adults, which includes administering rapid HIV tests, specimen collection (i.e., blood, urine, pharyngeal & rectal swabs) and/or blood testing, as well handling/transporting specimens in the office and in outreach (mobile) settings.
- Coordinate outreach testing activities by identifying community partners and outreach sites to increase access to HIV/STI testing.
- Complete all required training and documentation for all HIV/STI testing and client interventions.
HIV/STI Prevention Navigation Services
- Screen individuals seeking HIV/STI testing and/or prevention services for needs related to HIV prevention, mental health, substance use, and other sexual health goals.
- Conduct evidence-based interventions to include Personalized Cognitive Counseling (PCC) with eligible youth/young adults as a strategy to support their HIV prevention goals.
- Develop care plans with clients to identify goals and needed resources to meet stated goals related to HIV prevention, mental health, substance use and sexual health goals, utilizing Motivational Interviewing strategies.
- Provide linkage and ongoing support for clients to meet goals in partnership with internal services (HIV/STI testing and treatment, PrEP, mental health/substance use counseling), and external community resources through in person, text and email communication.
Administrative
- Collaborate with key community stakeholders, including the St. Louis Regional HIV Coalition, substance use/misuse treatment coalitions, and associated committees to coordinate and enhance HIV/STI prevention service delivery.
- Assist with quality control and quality assurance tasks for the Project ARK HIV testing program, which may include managing the testing supply and condom inventory and test kit controls.
- Complete reporting requirements as assigned to demonstrate effective implementation of projects specifically for SAMSHA prevention grant.
- Participate in Project ARK/The SPOT staff meetings including assist in identification of key agenda items to strengthen the prevention team and services provided.
- Participate in regional and state level integrated HIV planning bodies and their subcommittees as requested by Prevention Manager and Prevention Director.
Other Duties
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration and excellent customer service.
- Maintain required HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies and participate in staff trainings and meetings, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards and Washington University policies.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
