Night Shift (6:30pm-7am)

The Protective Services Officer provides internal and external safety, security functions to support the general safety of the hospital community.  These functions include but are not limited to; making periodic rounds checking for evidence of fire, safety hazards, deterrence of illegal activities and participation in investigations and assisting Law enforcement with arrests when warranted. Officers will be assigned a patrol area and respond to routine and/or emergency calls for assistance.

  • Provide high visibility rounding to promote communication, strengthen relationships, mitigate disruptive behavior, deter criminal activity, and foster a safe environment for all staff, patients, and visitors. This includes buildings, parking lots and grounds for assigned facilities and associated owned or leased properties within their assigned work area.  .
  • Performs BLS as needed and responds to emergency and disaster situations and carries out duties as assigned in the Emergency Operations Plan. Responds to calls for assistance. Takes appropriate control of dangerous situations by using sound judgement and quick thinking. Subdue and/or restrain any individual whose behavior warrants physical intervention including patients, while using the appropriate crisis intervention methods and complying with policies.  Must maintain composure when handling crisis situations.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations in hospital related incidents.  Works closely with local law enforcement and correctional agencies when the need arises including the completion of forensic orientation.
  • Maintains the facility's lost and found. Secures valuable property to ensure that it is not lost, tampered with, or stolen. May be required to collect and manage evidence or contraband as well as transport money to and from designated locations. Assist with morgue operations including release to Funeral Homes and Coroner. Assist with air ambulance operations.
  • Maintains accurate records of daily activities. Must be able to document events in a clear and concise manner. Report and document all unusual incidents, vehicular accidents, criminal offenses, and suspicious activity occurring within their assigned work area.
  • Performs staff escorts and/or provides transportation to staff and/or visitors, as appropriate. Performs vehicle assistance as required and appropriate. Enforces hospital parking policies and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time. Job involves climbing of stairs, and occasional running. Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds, and physically able to deal with combative persons, if needed. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, and a two-way radio.
  • Must be able to learn and pass required education and comply with all regulatory requirements. Demonstrate proficiency and properly care for all assigned equipment and motor vehicles
  • Supports the facility life safety program as directed, including fire drills and interim life safety measures.
  • Security Services are provided on all shifts including weekends and holidays. Officers must be flexible to meet the critical security needs of the facility.  Working conditions may include indoor and outdoor locations as well as inclement weather. Must be customer service oriented and adhere to an extreme sense of confidentiality.
  • Supports physical security technology, i.e., Access control and badging, video management, duress, and intrusion alarm systems, infant and pediatric abduction prevention systems, and emergency notification systems.

Required Minimum Education: 

High School Diploma/GED

Preferred Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree, Security or law enforcement related.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

Required Certifications: BLS Certification, Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training within first 6 months of hire.

Preferred Certifications: IAHSS Basic Certification/Appropriate Law Enforcement or Security Certification

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 1 or more years of military/Law enforcement/security.
