The Institute for Policy Solutions works with health policy leaders, innovators and researchers to redesign the U.S. health system. With the goal of shifting policy and practice to more preventive, value-based and whole-person care, the Institute elevates, develops and implements evidence-based, actionable nurse-led solutions. A focus on eliminating racist policies and structures entrenched in the country’s health care establishment and other systems underpins the Institute’s work. We are seeking a IPS Director of Strategic Partnership.
The Institute has two main objectives
- To eliminate health inequities in the United States and the world, the Institute will create policy pathways for scaling and spreading diverse, innovative and impactful nurse driven models of care.
- To elevate the policy, communications and media culture around nursing, the Institute will serve as a resource center where policymakers and news outlets can routinely seek nurses’ input.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Forging and Maintenance of Strategic Partnerships
- Lead the center’s development and maintenance of strategic partnerships with IPS stakeholders under the direct supervision of the executive director, Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos
- Work with the executive director in forging (identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing) potential partnerships with organizations and elected officials that align with IPS’ goals and strategic objectives.
- Work with the executive director in leading negotiations and securing agreements that define the scope, terms, and objectives of IPS’ strategic partnerships.
- Work with the executive director in building, maintaining, and improving relationships with various entities within the nonprofit, public health, government, and business sectors to support the elimination of health inequities through nurse-driven policy solutions.
- Serve as the main point of contact for strategic partners, maintaining regular communication and addressing any issues that arise.
- Plan and execute IPS events, initiatives, and campaigns that promote the goals of the partnership with IPS.
- Develop marketing strategies to promote the series on various digital channels and, when appropriate, engage the media in collaboration with the IPS Director of Communications.
- In collaboration with the IPS Director of Communications and Marketing will develop a convenings marketing strategy around IPS mission with high-level stakeholders.
Engagement with Elected Officials and Appointed Officials
- IPS is focused on nurse-driven policy solutions to eliminate health inequities, thus relationships with elected and senior appointed officials are paramount to the mission of the Institute.
- In collaboration with Johns Hopkins government relations staff establish and nurture relationships with congressional leaders, their staff, and key committees (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) to promote understanding and support for IPS priorities and to offer IPS thought leadership on specific health policy issues.
- Track and analyze health policy legislative activities and trends that impact IPS mission and provide regular updates to leadership and team. Get to know who is working on policies that may widen health inequities and who seeks to address them.
- In collaboration with the IPS Research Director and Communications and Marketing Director and the IPS Research Director, create and distribute policy briefs, position papers, talking points, and other materials to support legislative outreach efforts on health policy.
- Plan and execute events such as Capitol Hill briefings, receptions, and roundtables to engage congressional leaders and raise awareness about the value that nurses can bring to health policy discussions.
- Identify other organizations, associations and advocacy groups to work with and build a united front for advancing more equitable health policy and, whenever possible, uplift the voices and experience of nurses.
- Alongside the IPS Executive Director lead/participate in meetings, briefings, and hearings with congressional leaders, providing them with relevant information, data and, whenever possible, nursing expert testimony.
- Monitor the impact of legislative outreach efforts and report on successes, challenges, and areas for improvement to the IPS team.
Manage and Support the IPS Fellowship Program
- A cohort of fellows will be joining IPS to advance nursing science and its role in eliminating health care inequities in the US.
