Understanding the rapid pace of technological, social, and cultural change, our K-12 Education Studio works with schools across the country to navigate this change to better serve communities and improve educational experiences and outcomes for students.

Position Summary

As an Interior Designer at DLR Group, you will play a versatile role in our Interiors team, with responsibilities that vary across projects. You will be involved in developing comprehensive material and finish palettes, creating 3D renderings, and preparing presentation drawings. You'll also coordinate the design and technical development of interior aspects of projects, working closely with the integrated design team to deliver high-quality work that meets project scope, schedule, budget, and fee requirements.

You will be responsible for collaborating on the design of complex K-12 Education projects ranging in scale from schematic design through construction administration. As a part of the integrated design team, you will work in concert with the architectural design leader to develop comprehensive design solutions. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with clients, contractors, vendors, and other DLR Group team members to listen, design, and deliver the desired design outcomes.

In addition, you may assist the project manager with scheduling, developing work plans, creating cartoon sets, and ensuring QA/QC throughout the project. You'll often take the lead on interior design efforts, client interactions, and presentations. What you will do:

• Develop technical solutions to design challenges with creativity, design excellence, and a highly disciplined work ethic
• Integrate QA/QC, practice standards, and DLR Group protocols while collaborating with Project Managers on the coordination of project teams
• Maintain project schedules and coordinate project deliverables effectively
• Demonstrate strong abilities in conceptual design, program development, and applying space planning expertise
• Address 3D space holistically by aligning functionality, programmatic needs, materials, volumes, and space performance
• Design, document, and detail constructable ideas
• Select and apply appropriate products, materials, and FF&E that align with DLR Group’s sustainability commitments and K-12 best practices
• Create graphic presentations to clearly communicate design intent and storytelling
• Attend site walks and construction administration meetings regularly to articulate critical aspects of coordination with the integrated practice
• Mentor and demonstrate a strong willingness to grow and learn continuously
• Cultivate strong client, project management, and time management skills
• Prepare and develop drawings, models, images, material & mood boards, and other design-related documents
• Collaborate effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices
• Exhibit strong creative design and drawing skills, graphic and oral design presentation skills, conceptual design thinking, and 3D design/modeling ability
• Take initiative and demonstrate personal ownership of tasks
