Vir is looking for a Director for our IT Project Management Office. Reporting to the CIO, you will head the portfolio and project management function within the IT group. You are responsible for project delivery, portfolio management and associated processes for both throughout the organization. You will ensure a compelling workplace and IT environment is provided to Vir employees through the implementation of software and IT systems. You will create and lead programs to contribute to our organization and demonstrate your brilliance in change management and people leadership. As the head of the IT PMO, you will bring experience, knowledge, and vision to continually transform the function including strategy, core processes and the IT operating model and team.

As an important member of the senior IT leadership team your role contributes to the development of the enterprise IT strategy and delivers value through IT as mapped to companywide strategy and goals. You will partner with other PMO leads and program managers outside of IT, and with IT leaders, to provide IT expertise within your scope and influence executives from Facilities, Finance, HR, Research, Data-Science and other departments to promote Vir's mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Set the vision of the PMO organization to foster a project-delivery and value-creation mindset for the PMO and IT organization
  • Create the PMO charter, using input from senior leaders in IT and company strategy, to ensure the PMO is aligned with business strategies and long-term goals
  • Ensure that PMO roles, team configuration and skills are appropriate to deliver team goals in short- and long-term
  • Lead the identification and implementation of IT portfolios, project management processes, methods, tools and standards to ensure delivery of IT projects to time, scope and quality expectations
  • Define, and manage the needed end-to-end PMO work effort, which includes applying best practices and techniques in identifying, quantifying and tracking the realization of expected benefits defined in project charters and business cases
  • Provide ongoing mentoring to PMO staff and project managers
  • Develop relationships with senior leadership and PMO partners, and act as a trusted advisor
  • Review and evaluate opportunities to improve portfolio and project management best practices to achieve higher effectiveness in portfolio and project management
  • Lead the Vir project management community of practice to facilitate collaboration and best-practice sharing among project managers and PMO partners

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You have at least 15 years of Project Management experience including experience with one or more project management methodologies (for example, PMI PMBOK, PRINCE2 and Agile).
  • Program Management experience, including knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application.
  • Experience with Portfolio Management, as applied within IT and other departments, including usage of Portfolio Management systems such as Planview and Planisware.
  • Experience developing PMO vision and inspiring and motivating PMO staff.
  • A distinctive blend of business, IT and financial skills.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking, strategic planning, tactical and operational execution
  • Industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its functions.
  • Experience with current and new technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to support digital business, and how they may be applied to the enterprise to promote digital business.
  • Development and execution of strategic resource plans.
  • Explaining IT concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the PMO staff
