Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer in ​​Azure Cosmos DB, Microsoft’s next generation globally distributed, elastic scale, multi-model cloud database service - designed to enable developers to build planet scale applications. Azure Cosmos DB allows you to elastically scale both throughput and storage across any number of geographical regions with tunable consistency while providing blazing fast read/write performance backed by enterprise grade SLAs. 
 
Realizing Cosmos DB benefits demands closer integration with Cosmos DB distributed protocols in critical performance demanding application environments. You will be developing high performance, complex frameworks and libraries abstracting Cosmos DB distributed protocols which will be used by thousands of our customers across the globe in a highly demanding environment across many language runtimes. You will be interacting closely with server-side engineering team to enable these for customers.

Responsibilities

• Own, design and delivery of business-critical core features: Critical thinking, problem-solving, design, coding and troubleshooting skills.
• Has the desire and drive to become owner in this space and deliver through others
• End to end ownership across engineering lifecycle
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams to drive cross-functional results.
• Familiarity with high performance open-source tools and frameworks
• Willingness to learn and cooperate with others and ability to work independently
• Experience with multi-threading, synchronous and asynchronous programming

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: 

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications 

• ​​Familiarity with a NoSQL Database such as Cassandra, MongoDB or DynamoDB
• Experience with Distributed Systems, AWS, Azure​
