Job Summary:
As a Quality Inspector III in Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division in Griffin, GA, you’ll play a vital role in driving product excellence by investigating defects, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality standards are met across production and support New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives. This hands-on role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
What You Will Do:
Investigate product defects reported through warranty claims and internal quality systems (AQE – All Quality Events), including issues identified across multiple manufacturing facilities.
Provide defect investigation summaries to communicate root cause, containment inspections/rework, and corrective actions.
Inspect all in-house product as part of containment of quality events.
Document the status of all units, including performing rework and repairs for the contained population.
Communicate daily with the Quality Supervisor regarding containment status for assigned defects.
Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, and Engineering to resolve issues.
Support material disposition for failure analysis activities.
Represent Quality in Griffin NPI process, including validating quality system readiness.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) builds by identifying opportunities to enhance product design and manufacturing processes.
Participate in weekly Material Review Board meetings to evaluate and disposition nonconforming materials.
Any other duties assigned by leadership.
What You Will Have:
Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably within the power systems or heavy equipment industry.
Technical knowledge in product assembly, testing, or manufacturing processes.
Experience performing a variety of tasks across multiple operational areas or work zones.
Computer experience, including:
Sending emails
Accessing Tools Net, EPIX, HVC, ESAP and REDI
Ability to read blueprints, including understanding EC (Engineering Changes) levels and their impact.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience with torque measurement equipment, including datamytes.
Experience with NPI (New Product Introduction) pilots.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized work instructions to ensure consistent product quality.
What Will Put You Ahead:
Experience with In Process Validation (IPV) test equipment.
Assembly experience across multiple value streams and commodities.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to occasionally lift parts up to 25 lbs. individually or up to 70 lbs. with a team lift
The ability to bend, reach, and squat while performing tasks
The ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks
The ability to work in an environment with frequently changing temperatures
