Description
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Junior Controller is responsible for maintenance of the organization’s fiscal records and preparation of financial reports. He/she will provide management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts. The Junior Controller provides support to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer as well as the organization’s department heads in a manner consistent with FeedMore WNY’s mission to lead an informed, coordinated response to hunger in the four-county service area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as lead on all aspects of accounting operations including accounts receivable/payable, payroll, retirement plan, bank accounts/reconciliations, and the management of financial controls in accordance with GAAP;
- Conducts month-end close process. Ensures all monthly postings are completed in a timely manner. Identifies and compiles outstanding payables and receivables for accrual, resolves any outstanding transactions. Prepares monthly reports and updates schedules as needed;
- Conducts private grant revenue and expense review; investment reconciliation, depreciation; inventory management and pre-paid reconciliations;
- Develops and maintains documented financial management infrastructure including policies, processes, procedures and internal controls;
- Verifies proper recording of payroll and benefits. Serves as back up to process payroll;
- Key contributor in year-end close, annual audits and budget preparations;
- Assists internal teams to manage various requirements such as budget vs actual reporting, grant reporting, fuel tax refund claims, sales tax refund claims and business insurance issues;
- Supervises accounting staff;
- Assists with any and all mission work as needed and requested with some or no prior notice including, but not limited to: serving as a truck spotter, helping with FARM Market/Community Garden/Freight Farms/on and off site food distributions, preparation of meals and serving home-delivered meals; and
- Other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field and minimum of 5 years experience;
- A compressive understanding of financial/accounting matters and processes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment, confidentiality essential.
- Proficient in MS Office Software, especially Excel as well as accounting software
- Current & valid driver’s license and access to an automobile
- Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 35 lbs.
