Job Summary
The Defence Systems and AGS Senior Commodity Buyer is responsible for managing procurement expenditure and product related services as directed by the AGS and Systems Commodity Manager. The objective of the role is to support the commodity procurement function in developing and managing a global commodity procurement strategy which delivers on GKN’s requirements for a capable and cost effective supply chain.
The Senior Commodity Buyer will support the relevant commodity management products and services for all GKN’s defence sites on behalf of the relevant site, programme and function.
The role entails operating with a high degree of autonomy, whilst being an effective member of the commodity management team, delivering cost effective solutions for all global sites.
A key element of the role is to ensure the commodity management strategy is aligned to meet the needs of the GKN site or programme requirements, whilst ensuring ultimate value generation for the business. There will also be a requirement to support commodity management projects on behalf of the wider GKN Aerospace business, relevant site and programme.
The commodity procurement function is ultimately responsible for supplier selection, and ensuring the selected suppliers work to agreed terms to deliver a cost effective service to GKN meeting all requirements. In addition, the senior buyer will need to engage with internal stakeholders, to ensure the supply chain capabilities, and commercial terms are appropriately accounted for within the GKN business, and incorporated into GKN’s commercial proposals back to its customers.
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Commodity Buyer will be responsible for supporting strategic sourcing for the Systems and AGS Commodity within the region and ensure to maximise leverage of goods and items procured , reporting to the Global Commodity Manager :
- Support the commodity team to meet or exceed profit plan goals related to commodities including: Cost Savings, working capital, quality, supplier rationalisation, low cost sourcing and other agreed objectives.
- Manage Strategic supplier relationships: Running regular reviews with strategic suppliers to ensure GKN’s requirements are met. (delivery/quality/cost/risk management).
- Take Leadership when required for commodity activities in coordination with costing and engineering to drive a competitive advantage for GKN Aerospace.
- Support in the development, of strategies for the relevant commodity (including supplier selection, negotiations of terms and conditions, engaging GKN stakeholders, communicating internally on supplier status)
- Develop supply chain solutions supporting GKN’s bidding of new work or extensions to existing programme contracts.
- Support and prepare the Make or Buy decisions, prepare data and plans for relevant commodity gate reviews.
- Support efforts concerning supply base rationalization and supplier development.
- Ensure leveraging synergies across the GKN global network.
Job Qualifications
Ideally Bachelor's Degree ideally in STEM subjects or Supply Chain, Business, or CIPS Membership.
•Minimum of 5 years Category Management / Commodity experience with 2-3 years in Aerospace industry preferred.
