Who we are looking for

The Asset Stewardship team is responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s proxy voting and engagement guidelines, managing issuer engagement, and undertaking research and analysis of governance and sustainability related issues. As a senior member of State Street Global Advisors’ (SSGA) Asset Stewardship team, the individual in this role will be responsible for managing activities associated with SSGA’s Asset Stewardship efforts across the Americas region to fulfill our fiduciary duty. This role requires significant cross-organizational leadership and teamwork skills to:

Oversee proxy voting and engagement activities across the Americas Help develop Voting and Engagement Policy and Guidelines for the Americas region Partner with Head of Stewardship Strategy to present our views to clients and market participants across the Americas  Establish and manage a team to support such efforts

This role is based in Boston.

What you will be responsible for

As Deputy Head of Americas Asset Stewardship, VP you will

• Lead and participate in voting and engagement activities with investee companies across the Americas region, with support from analysts
• Propose updates to proxy voting policies and guidelines related to corporate governance
• Write thought leadership on emerging and established corporate governance topics
• Participate in speaking engagements, roundtables, and conferences related to corporate governance topics in the Americas region
• Liaise with internal and external partners as needed
• Work with our Stewardship team to enhance approach to prioritization and escalation in our proxy voting and engagement program
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to understand stewardship landscape in the Americas to ensure that stewardship program is aligned with client expectation, market best practice, and regulations

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• 5+years of experience in proxy voting and company engagement
• Expert understanding of corporate governance landscape in Americas context
• Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders
• Strong writing skills and an interest in developing thought leadership
• Organizational skills, including the ability to respond to inbound requests in a timely manner
• Ability to present information in an organized and clear fashion
• Strong understanding of SSGA’s clients and client-facing activities would be beneficial
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment, demonstrating initiative and the ability to prioritize workloads
