Department: Acute General Medicine/Telemetry (5400)

Location: Rochester General Hospital

Hours Per Week: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Schedule: Day/Evening

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $15,000

SUMMARY: As a Registered Nurse – Educator, your in-depth knowledge and outstanding communication skills are key in fostering quality care, enhanced wellness and ongoing growth and development throughout Rochester Regional.

The RN Educator is a key leader and clinical resource responsible for guiding the professional development of nursing staff on 5400. This role supports quality patient care by designing and implementing orientation programs, ongoing education, and skills development initiatives tailored to the needs of this high-acuity medical unit.

The RN Educator works collaboratively with nurse leaders, preceptors, and multidisciplinary teams to build a confident, competent nursing workforce and a strong, supportive culture from the ground up. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and support comprehensive education programs, including orientation, skills training, and ongoing development.
  • Provide hands-on coaching for complex patient care, promote evidence-based practice, and serve as a clinical mentor.
  • Collaborate with leadership on quality and safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with current standards and best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Evaluation. Identify and validate the learning needs of customers by utilizing needs assessments, CQI results, performance improvement results, customer surveys and course evaluation results; document the effectiveness of educational offerings by developing, monitoring and assessing competencies; analyze cost to maximize the efficient utilization of resources

· Development. Create educational programs and curriculum that promote quality healthcare, employee/patient growth and personal wellness; provide leadership in areas of expertise as a resource to the customer; develop communications and audio-visual materials that are clear and concise

· Implementation. Facilitate programs to meet the identified learning needs of our customers; provide in-depth orientation, in-service and continuing education for staff or patients

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be currently registered and licensed by NYS as a registered professional nurse.

· For Diabetes Education - Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or achievement of CDE status within two years of the start date in the position.

· For Wound Care - National Certification from Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) or Wound Care Certification (WCC) from NAWCO required

· Bachelor’s degree required in nursing, health education, or instructional development or an equivalent combination of education and healthcare related work experience will be considered.

· Minimum of 1 year prior training/teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Three years prior training/teaching experience in related educational field.

· For ElderONE: Preferred experience with frail elderly, home care and HHA staff.

EDUCATION:

BS: Health Education, BS: Nursing (Required)

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: 

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
