The Senior Legacy Giving Officer plays a pivotal role in driving Atlanta Mission's long-term financial sustainability and growth. By expertly managing the prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of loyal donors, this role is essential in identifying and securing legacy intentions, ensuring a robust pipeline of future gifts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prospecting and Donor Stewardship


Develop and implement processes for tracking Legacy Giving engagement.


Create strategic engagement plans and identify potential Legacy Giving prospects.


Steward existing Legacy Giving donors and manage a caseload of high-engagement donors.


Partner with financial advisors for Estate Planning guidance.


Solicit and steward donors through various methods, including face-to-face meetings.


Promote the organization through presentations, brochures, and involvement in professional groups.


Maintain donor and prospect files, compile statistics, and assist with PR and volunteer events.

Donor Awareness and Education


Educate donors on gift offerings to meet their philanthropic goals.


Secure and use donor testimonials in marketing materials.


Write and manage Legacy Giving marketing communications.


Coordinate and host Legacy Giving education and gratitude events, including The 1938 Society annual event.


Lead communication efforts and manage periodic surveys for the Legacy Giving program.


Build partnerships for educational opportunities and respond to donor inquiries.


Assist in closing Legacy gift opportunities and meet revenue goals.

Major Gift Officer Responsibilities


Track progress towards Legacy Giving goals and ensure donor activities are recorded.


Recommend cultivation and training routines for achieving goals.


Develop proposals, presentations, and reports; manage a $1M donor portfolio.


Provide activity reports and revenue forecasts.


Perform other major gift and legacy gift donor activities as required by management.


Manage a portfolio of $700k-$900k.

Analytics and Tracking


Analyze Legacy giving data and leverage moves management.


Present updates to leaders and quarterly stewardship metrics.


Use donor history and wealth data for prospecting.


Track donor information and engagement details in Salesforce.

Position Requirements


Years of Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in legacy/planned giving or fundraising development.


Fundraising and Philanthropy: In-depth understanding of fundraising principles, donor engagement strategies, and philanthropic trends.


Estate Planning: Comprehensive knowledge of estate planning and legacy giving vehicles, including trusts, wills, and charitable remainder trusts.


Financial Acumen: Basic knowledge of financial principles and practices related to charitable giving and tax implications for donors.


Nonprofit Sector: Familiarity with the nonprofit sector, specifically within the context of mission-driven organizations and their funding needs.


Marketing and Communications: Understanding of marketing principles, especially as they relate to donor communication and engagement.


Donor Relations: Strong skills in building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors, including personalized communication and stewardship.


Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and implement strategic engagement plans for various donor tracks and giving programs.


Presentation and Public Speaking: Proficiency in presenting to community groups, hosting events, and making persuasive presentations.
