Accountant (Part Time) - Global Shipping Infrastructure

What are you going to do?

Have you ever stopped to wonder how your computer, clothes, furniture or household goods made their way to your doorstep? Most likely, almost everything you own arrived here in a container on a container ship. The global shipping industry is massive, complex, and has largely been done the same way for decades without much change or innovation. The lack of digital innovation and infrastructure in the global shipping space results in poor visibility, missed deadlines, and lost revenue for all parties involved.

Our client is building the digital infrastructure for global shipping. Our technology platform unites the entire ocean freight supply chain into a reliable, efficient, and trusted system for global commerce. Our solution helps Shippers, Carriers, and NVOCCs improve performance, strengthen relationships and reduce manual workload.

As the Part-Time Accountant, you’ll work closely with our VP of Finance to oversee the day-to-day financial operations. This is a part-time, hybrid role reporting to our VP of Finance.

• Oversee and manage processes related to general accounting, monthly financial close, financial operations, A/R, A/P, and tax compliance – diving into the details and rolling up your sleeves to execute when necessary
• Prepare timely monthly financial reporting packages and interpret financial information for directors, shareholders and leadership
• Act as a key liaison to and manage relationships with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, ensuring the timely and efficient completion of audits

What will help you succeed

• 5+ years of experience in Accounting, ideally in either public accounting or a high-growth startup company
• Technical accounting experience and a command of GAAP accounting principles and procedures
• Experience enforcing accounting polices and processes to support a scaling business
• Excellent financial acumen and analytical skills
• Experience using NetSuite and Excel
• An ownership mindset with a high degree of accountability for accuracy and hitting deadlines
• The ability to communicate effectively with both financially and non-financially focused audiences
• Able to work Part time (either 2 weeks per month, or 4 hours per day)
