Job Summary:Under the general supervision of a Security Shift Commander (SO3), will provide daily on-on-one training and mentoring for Security Officer 1's staff in the performance of their duties, posts and required response to various codes, drills and other emergencies, building/ mall safety inspections and customer service, as staffing allows. Will provide initial on-the-job training to all shift new hires in how to perform tasks that will become part of their everyday work routine. The Security Officer II (Security Lead Officer) shall be the direct supervisor of their assigned Security Officer I staff.
Position will also serve as Specialist-in-Charge of Security in absence of on-duty supervisor, ensuring department safety and service posts, and the on-duty Operator/Dispatch position are maintained during shift, and handle other duties as required.
As the Security Lead, will assist supervisors in: shift briefings; listening and guiding staff, problem-solving and resolving conflict as appropriate. Will make personnel recommendations to the supervisor. May be part of interview panels. Performs related work as required.
Job Duties:
- Trains Security staff in a one-on-one status in duties related to the safety and security of ASH and ACPTC; ensures staff competency in performing required duties at assigned posts (10), including responding to all hospital emergencies and Codes as required, and daily departmental functions.
- Performs duties of Security Lead as required, supervising the assigned Security I Officers. Is aware of rules and regulations, policies, procedures and protocols to help Security staff ensure their understanding and compliance.
- Interacts with hospital staff, patients and residents, writes and submits appropriate related reports as necessary, confers with supervisor as appropriate management teams; advocates that Security staff assist Nursing and the hospital in maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients/residents, and in supporting the safety of staff and patients alike.
- Assists supervisors in preparing related administrative guidelines, protocols and duty station procedures; assists in helping to resolve employee, patient, resident or visitor relationships; assists in problem solving an decision making.
- Position will also serve as Shift Commander in absence of on-duty Supervisor III, ensuring department safety and service posts, and the on-duty Operator/Dispatch position are maintained during shift, and handle other duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)
Knowledge of:
-Federal and state laws and due process as it relates to safety and security of the hospital
campus.
-Proper methods and circumstances requiring use of force; proper use of metal, leather, and cloth restraints.
-Proper methods to be used when transporting patients.
-Hospital rules, regulations and procedures as it relates to the safety and security of the
campus, order, discipline of staff and mental health and/or behavioral health patients.
-Methods and techniques and practices of operating two-way radios, security cameras,
security devices, electronic doors, electronic sound equipment, telephone system and
intercom system.
-Evacuation procedures including the use of fire extinguishers, sprinklers, test valves and
their operation.
-Report writing.
