Position Summary:
The Environmental Director position ensures the environmental performance and acts as a functional expert resource in the organization. The prime objective is to optimize the overall environmental aspects of the organization across the value chain in order to enhance the corporate image with proactive consumer and customer oriented activities and external engagement. Working with internal and external partners, the position develops, implements and maintains robust environmental strategies, policies and plans that foster a culture where environmental compliance and sustainability is ingrained as a core value, promoting a highly efficient, low cost value chain with a continuous improvement mindset. The Environmental Director is the expert resource to build capability of other internal company resources and as such acts to build environmental knowledge and capability across the organization.
This role will be based at our office in Solon, Ohio and work a hybrid schedule blend of in office/at home. Relocation to the Solon area is required for candidates that do not currently live in the area.
Responsibilities:
In addition to setting corporate SH&E (Safety, Health and Environmtenal) strategies, initiatives, programs and procedures as part of the Corporate SH&E Functional Leadership Team, responsibilities include functional leadership via hands on counsel, supervision, assessment and implementation of :
- Environmental strategies, programs, systems and plans - Develops Environmental best in class programs, systems and processes, including training and coaching to establish clear procedures on environmental measures and precautions in accordance with ISO 14001 and other relevant internal and external standards. Develops and maintains appropriate regulatory and internal environmental audit protocols that ensure corporate and all facilities are in compliance with company and regulatory agencies’ policies pertaining to Environment and Environmental Sustainability. Directs company-wide functional Environmental programs and acts as internal subject matter expert in those areas. Active supporter of Environmental Sustainability and Nestlé Net Zero Roadmap. Works through established systems, applies related tools. Builds effective, functioning networks across the factories to provide support and ensure common understanding to drive specific issues.
- Environmental Remediation project management - Lead the management of all Company remediation projects. Assemble and manage teams of internal and external expert resources to minimize cost, long term liability and time of remedial activities. Work with regulators, other land owners and members of the public to ensure proactive cooperation on projects.
- SH&E Staff support training and capability building – Serve as NUSA Environmental counsel to support other leaders of business/function/category. Provide coaching and training to, and regularly interact with, organizational leaders and SH&E experts in SH&E leadership and functionally related areas. Responsible for training and capability building of SH&E facility experts in collaboration with Corporate SH&E business/category/functional leads.
- Liaison and technical expertise – Provides technical expertise in all areas and initiatives of the function. Partners with internal and external partners to deliver on a variety of initiatives including legal, procurement, packaging, engineering, operations, quality, etc. Represents the company in key external organizations and builds effective networks that ultimately deliver value to the business and overall brand equity.
