Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers' accounting team serves as the steward of our financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements. The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders.

As a Sr Manager, Accounting in the Treasury Banking Operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate books and records for reporting to both internal and external parties while maintaining a strong control environment. In addition to preparing, reviewing and approving financial activities such as journal entries, payment requests, and reconciliations, you will act as a subject matter expert and may coach and mentor members on your team. This position will manage finance and accounting professionals.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead administration of Frontier Reconciliation System that produces bank and check reconciliation for the company.
  • Oversee/liaison for Offshore bank reconciliation team.
  • Compile, review, and analyze complex financial data for variance analysis, reporting, and accuracy to interpret and understand while beginning to present on trends.
  • Accountable for the preparation and creation of multiple components of overall business and financial plan, budget, and forecasts.
  • In partnership with management, engage with business partners or functional partners in order to develop strong analyses and financial plans.
  • Conduct a detailed review for accuracy and completeness and approve internal management based financial reporting complete and consistent results with corporate policies and standards.
  • Oversight of treasury activities related to external financial statements which may include GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles). Provide coaching and training to team members.
  • Perform, review, and assist in the development of financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Prepare and review complex documentation to support internal and external audits with interaction with internal auditors.
  • Maintain compliance with various financial external regulatory requirements and internal accounting policies.
  • Participate and/or lead in projects that involve complex analysis and implementation of non-complex, routine business and financial regulatory changes relating to financial reporting, such as reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
  • Provide coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Effectively oversee and engage direct reports and perform management activities such as performance management, career development, and talent acquisition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Experience with accounting theory and practice within the insurance and financial services industry.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of management.
  • Experience leading and managing a team, preferred.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret trends and provide insights and recommendations to business partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through to ensure timely completion.
  • Ability to think strategically and use judgement to resolve issues as they arise.
