Job Description

We are looking for a Software Quality Manager to lead our expanding team.   You will be collaborating with other members of the SQA team and cross-functional teams to create and carry out automated and manual tests.  To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee and lead groups involved in  automated test tool development with a programming background.  This is both in firmware and software.

Responsible for the quality of standard releases of Instron’s materials testing software, firmware and other Instron applications.  Overseeing operations of the Software Quality team, your role will focus on setting the strategic direction for the department; promoting best test practices, advanced test automation, and ensure that test processes and documentation meet the requirements of ISO9001.  Specific knowledge and

  • Defining and directing the role that software/firmware testing plays within the business
  • Maintain oversight of the scope of testing within the context of each product release
  • Implementing and evolving appropriate department measurements and metrics
  • Plan, deploy and manage the test effort for any given product or software release.
  • Evaluate new testing processes and technologies.
  • Manage and grow test assets including testing tools, platforms, and processes
  • Lead, coach and develop a more junior team of Software Quality professionals
  • A proven record of testing enterprise applications running on:  SQL Server  
  • Experience with user management and business software systems
  • Knowledge of software quality assurance techniques, equipment, and procedures
  • Experience with test automation
  • History of writing test plans and test cases that are clear, succinct, and thorough.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning recent technology
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensuring that a healthy, safe, secure, and environmentally conscious work environment is maintained always and by all staff, in compliance with corporate policies and federal and state regulations
  • Identifying system faults and create corrective measures.
  • Reviewing system specifications and monitor quality control metrics.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have lead and managed a software quality team, have a technical education, a passion for technology and experience in a software quality role, preferably in a leadership capacity. Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Computer engineering or scientific discipline, 2-3 years of experience combined with the following skills and experience:

  • Self-directed, results orientated, ambitious goal setter.

  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; adapt to assignment changes on short notice; and work under stress to meet timelines.
  • Direct experience as a strong coach with the ability to hire, develop and retain a diverse pipeline of strengths, capability, and talent.
  • Culturally aware and be able to build constructive and effective relationships across the organization.
  • A positive attitude focused on understanding, anticipating, and responding to the needs of our customers, both internal and external to the department and organization.
  • Expert knowledge of the software lifecycle, automated test tools, and the ability to write accurate, clear, and complete verification and validation plans.
  • Manual testing of software applications.
  •  Programming test harnesses to expand our automated testing program.
  • Use automated test programs to test software and embedded system applications.
  • Experience in testing engineering or scientific applications.
  • Experience in testing methodologies, test plan development, test case design, data collection and reporting practices.
  • Ability to learn C#.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows 10TM operating system.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
