Postdoctoral Project Researcher for Intelligent Equilibrium Blankets for Distributed Computing Continuum Systems project

We are seeking a researcher to contribute to the EqBlankets project. The primary responsibility will be to model distributed continuous computing systems using Service Level Objectives (SLOs). The role involves investigating the ability of SLOs to manage system requirements and developing machine learning and active inference algorithms to support both the design and execution of distributed computing systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in distributed computing.

The selected candidate will primarily work as a researcher. In this role, minor tasks related to project coordination are expected, along with programming and testing skills necessary to carry out the required research.

Objectives (SLOs), exploring their capacity to manage system requirements, and developing machine learning and active inference algorithms to support the design and execution of distributed computing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

        •        Develop models (statistical or machine learning-based) of agents for Cloud and Edge environments capable of managing and explaining the behavior of SLOs.

        •        Integrate business models into the Computing Continuum framework to enhance the applicability and scalability of developed solutions.

        •        Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present results at international conferences.

        •        Prepare research proposals for national and international funding opportunities to expand the scope of related research lines.

        •        Deliver 30 to 40 hours of teaching annually at the Department of Engineering.

English is required. Spanish and/or Catalan are well considered.

Qualifications

Requirements:

        •        Expertise in distributed computing systems, statistical modeling, and/or machine learning.

        •        Experience with algorithm development and SLO-based system design is highly desirable.

        •        Strong publication record and experience presenting research at international venues.

        •        Ability to contribute to research proposal preparation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Selection process criteria:

 1.        Academic Background (10 points): Candidates must have a strong academic foundation relevant to the position.         

2.        Professional Experience and Alignment with the Proposed Profile (25 points): Demonstrated professional experience closely aligned with the requirements and objectives of the role.         

3.        Research Experience Supported by Scientific Publications (20 points): Proven research expertise evidenced by peer-reviewed scientific publications.         

4.        International Mobility (15 points): Experience in international academic or professional environments.         

5.        Participation and Organization in Scientific Dissemination Events (15 points): Active involvement in organizing or participating in conferences, workshops, or other events aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge.         

6.        Teaching Activities (15 points): Experience in teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring final projects at the undergraduate or master’s level.  Each criterion will be assessed and weighted according to the points indicated.

The minimal score for selecting is 75
