Technical Expert position leading technical design and development of Axle Systems in Ford Vehicles, which includes beam axles and independent suspension drive units.
We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to serve as the technical expert in Axle systems at Ford Motor Company. In this role, you will serve as the systems owner for the requirements, specifications, and strategy of the design and manufacturing of Axles. You will be working with both components and system engineers as a mentor, coach, and go-to technical expert for challenging problems and strategic plans.
In this position...
- Author and maintain Axle design engineering specifications.
- Partner with Vehicle attribute teams (Dynamics, NVH, weight, energy management) to cascade axle system capabilities inline with vehicle level targets.
- Support technical design reviews for product signoffs with Core Engineers.
What you'll do...
- Go-To for Problem Solving – Launch, Recall, Quality, Field Issues.
- Coach, Mentor, & Train Axle System D&R engineers across all the global regions.
- Take ownership in axle warranty spend including driving best practices across Ford Axles.
- Create/maintain Generic FMA documentation, SDS/Requirements, Test Procedures, and Core DVP.
- Partner with R&A to identify and develop new technology roadmap in Axles with a drive towards lower cost of manufacture and increased running efficiencies.
- Develop axle supply strategy (In-house vs bought out) with purchasing matched pair.
- Conduct global supplier onsite reviews at both in-house Ford plants as well as bought-out axle plants and recommend best practices for manufacturing process and quality control.
- Provide technical support to the Architecture, Core, and Applications teams for the development of axle systems.
- Develop best practices for interfaces with interfacing component/systems on boundary diagram.
- Interface directly with component Technical specialists to ensure clear alignment on requirement cascades from components, sub-systems, and full axle system.
- Conduct benchmarking to support current and future axle strategies.
- Provide Technical leadership to broader Underbody Systems engineering teams.
- Leverage CAE modelling capability to optimize quality, maximize efficiency and minimize cost.
- Create and Conduct training sessions.
You'll have...
- BS in Engineering required.
- 5+ years of experience working with Automotive Axle Systems.
Even better, you may have...
- MS-Engineering preferred.
- Extensive engineering design & release experience in Axles from initial design concepts through launch.
- Extensive experience creating and managing DFMEA/PFMEA/SCCAF/Control Plans/Drawings.
- Experience with CAE tools and methods.
- Extensive knowledge & experience with associated manufacturing and quality processes.
- Required leadership skills - quality focused as #1 priority, innovative, excellent communicator, strong organizational skills, highly motivated self-starter.
- Position requires occasional travel to assembly plants and other global engineering centers to support new process development, issue resolution, and Design and Release engineer training.
- On-site support for collaboration required, targeting 3 days per week.
