Basic Function
The Sr. Solution Architect - Operational Technology (OT) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the architecture of the organization’s OT systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices. This role focuses on the integration of industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other OT components with enterprise IT systems while maintaining robust security and operational reliability. The OT Architect plays a critical role in driving digital transformation, optimizing industrial processes, and enhancing the convergence of IT and OT environments.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Sr. Solution Architect - OT is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing the architecture of the organization’s OT systems to ensure seamless alignment with IT infrastructure and business goals. The OT Architect ensures the secure integration of OT and IT environments, drives the adoption of emerging technologies such as IIoT and edge computing, and develops strategies for digital transformation and automation. The role also involves ensuring compliance with industry standards, implementing cybersecurity measures, and supporting the continuous improvement of OT systems to enhance operational efficiency and resilience. Key responsibilities include overseeing system lifecycle management, fostering collaboration across teams, and providing leadership on OT technology and security best practices.
- Design and develop robust, scalable, and secure architectures for OT systems, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
- Integrate OT environments with IT systems, enabling seamless data exchange and process optimization
- Define and maintain architectural standards and guidelines for OT technologies and platforms
- Implement and enforce cybersecurity measures to protect OT systems from potential threats, including physical and cyber risks
- Lead the integration of industrial systems with enterprise IT systems and cloud platforms
- Optimize data flows and operational efficiencies by implementing modern communication protocols and middleware
- Ensure interoperability across a diverse set of OT and IT technologies
- Drive the adoption of advanced technologies, such as IIoT, edge computing, and AI/ML, to enhance industrial processes
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve operational efficiency and resilience
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of OT systems, including architecture, deployment, upgrades, and decommissioning
- Develop and maintain documentation, including system diagrams, policies, and procedures
- Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability of OT systems
- Work closely with engineering, operations, IT, and cybersecurity teams to align OT strategies with business goals
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders to communicate architectural decisions and their impact
- Manage relationships with OT vendors and service providers, ensuring optimal performance and value
Min. Qualifications
This is a Sr Solution architect position requiring either a degreed professional who possesses a bachelor's degree in computer science, Business, or Engineering with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience. This individual must demonstrate strong technical SAP security expertise and knowledge in each of the following technology disciplines:
- 8+ years of experience in OT, ICS, or similar fields, with 3+ years in an architecture or leadership role
- Proven experience with industrial automation systems, SCADA, DCS, and PLCs
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing OT architectures for industrial environments, such as manufacturing, energy, utilities, or oil and gas sectors.
- Experience in IT/OT convergence projects and digital transformation initiatives
- Strong track record in delivering digital transformation initiatives, including the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies such as IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), edge computing, cloud integration, and big data analytics
- Strong knowledge of OT systems and protocols
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end lifecycle of OT systems, including design, deployment, upgrades, and decommissioning
- Experience with vendor and third-party management, ensuring smooth collaboration between OT solution providers, service vendors, and internal teams
- Expertise in industrial cybersecurity frameworks and tools (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection for OT environments)
- Experience with IIoT platforms, edge computing, and cloud-based industrial solutions
