About the Role:
The Senior Innovation Engineering Manager is a hybrid technical and people‑leadership role within the Hybrid Cloud Chief Technologist (HCCT) Innovation Engineering organization. This role is responsible for leading a high‑performing engineering team based in Galway while remaining deeply engaged in hands‑on technical work, architectural leadership, and innovation execution.
This role requires the ability to balance hands‑on development with architectural guidance, active innovation ideation, and concept project submission while driving technical excellence across a portfolio of initiatives. The Sr Manager will contribute directly to complex engineering efforts when appropriate, applying deep technical expertise to shape designs, accelerate problem‑solving, and unblock critical paths.
Beyond execution, the role plays a central part in the innovation lifecycle—identifying emerging opportunities, formulating technical concepts, and advancing ideas into structured proofs of concept or incubation projects. The Sr Manager is expected to originate and elevate ideas aligned with HCCT’s Hybrid Cloud and AI strategy, guiding them from early exploration through formal concept submission, review, and incubation.
Architectural leadership is a core responsibility of this role. The Sr Manager technical oversight across projects to ensure solutions meet high standards for scalability, performance, security, and operational readiness across hybrid, on‑prem, and public cloud environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership across cloud‑native, distributed, and AI‑enabled systems, contributing directly to design and implementation when appropriate.
- Owns end‑to‑end delivery of multiple concurrent innovation engineering initiatives, including defining scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements; managing risks; and ensuring high‑quality, timely execution across the project lifecycle.
- Lead innovation ideation and concept development, including authoring and sponsoring concept submissions for incubation and proof‑of‑concept projects.
- Manage, coach, and develop Engineers across all levels, fostering a culture of technical rigor, experimentation, and continuous learning.
- Drive engineering excellence by setting expectations for high-quality code following best practices in AI assisted code generation (GitHub CoPilot), testing, validation, CI/CD, and observability.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies including Generative AI, LLM frameworks, RAG pipelines, vector databases, knowledge graphs, and agent orchestration frameworks.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, research, and partner engineering teams across HPE to align innovation with business outcomes.
- Ensure responsible AI, governance, and security practices are embedded throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree OR equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- Typically 10+ years of experience in either cloud‑native or distributed systems engineering, including 5+ years significant technical leadership or people management experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong programming background (Python preferred) with deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, and cloud‑native development.
- Practical experience and knowledge with Generative AI technologies including LLMs, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and knowledge graphs.
- Experience leading technical design reviews and enforcing modern engineering best practices.
