About us
Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. From advances in material science to complex chemistry simulation for drug design and discovery, quantum computers will help solve some of the world’s most important challenges. Riverlane is building the quantum error correction stack, Deltaflow, to make this happen. It’s a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.
We recently raised $75M in Series C funding to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), and are partnering with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.
About the role
As quantum computing enters a new phase—the ‘QEC era’— marked by significant advancements in quantum error correction, it presents new technical challenges and a growing need to empower the next generation of learners and innovators.
Riverlane has committed to leading the QEC community into fault-tolerant quantum computing by making a substantial investment in a new open-source tools strategy, complemented by scalable education and enablement. We aim to accelerate advances in QEC research by building out Riverlane’s open-source software (OSS) library and developer APIs to provide critical tools for QEC workflows, such as logical circuit generation, simulation, decoding and noise modelling.
In this role, you will develop and maintain a new developer API, and associated application infrastructure, supporting QEC experiment workflows. This cloud service will target enabling quantum computing practitioners beginning to explore and experiment with error correction, based on learnings from Riverlane’s world-class QEC science mission.
This position does not require a background previously building software for quantum computing.
What you will do
As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our horizontally scalable applications. This includes implementing software, managing application container pools, authentication services, load balancing, message queues and comprehensive monitoring dashboards. You will be a key contributor to ensuring the reliability, performance and security of our platform.
This high-impact role is an outstanding opportunity to build 0->1 software products that will empower the next generation of learners and innovators in QEC.
In this role, you will:
- Write quality and high-performance code, while independently contributing new features to our Python and C++ repositories.
- Design, build and maintain highly available and scalable cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure capabilities.
- Implement and maintain robust authentication and authorization services.
- Collaborate closely within the development team to understand application requirements and optimize infrastructure for performance and scalability.
- Advise on SaaS-related decisions (protocol selection, encryption etc).
- Develop and implement a streamlined deployment and update strategy.
- Develop and implement a reliable back-up and restore strategy.
- Design our SLA and proactively identify/resolve infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Work within the ambiguity of a new software product mission to own and deliver on loosely defined tasks from new domains.
Requirements
What we need
- 5+ years of experience in software and cloud infrastructure engineering.
- Strong proficiency in cloud computing concepts and technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana and Microsoft Azure.
- Proficiency in Linux and networking capabilities, e.g. NGINX setup, network file systems, certificate management, Linux services and OAuth authentication.
- Proven ability as a software engineer using Python, C++ (basic skills), Git, GitHub, pip and Poetry.
- Ability to use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting tools, including Bash, Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong written and verbal communication sk
