Job Summary

Bird Electric, a Black & Veatch company, is a U.S. self-perform electrical construction services provider with a national reach in emergency power restoration. Bird Electric delivers grid solutions and operates in adjacent distributed infrastructure markets including renewables, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and connectivity. The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining the Company's Safety Procedures.  Performs high complexity safety traing related tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages safety training programs,
  • Assists in the development and implementation of corporate programs and initiatives.
  • Manages and training/career development programs for safety professionals.
  • Directs corrective action for performance issues of safety and health professionals.
  • Manages trainings and project safety performance.
  • Manages training component of division's strategic plan.
  • Develops and implements safety training programs that assist division to meet company goals and expectations.
  • Develops division and project specific safety programs and processes.
  • Develops and conducts employee safety training programs.
  • Conducts division safety training evaluations.
  • Conducts site safety training program audits.
  • Interfaces with clients and government officials.
  • Interfaces with key division and corporate management.
  • Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports.
  • Serves as a mentor to other safety professionals.
  • Identifies and assesses improvement opportunities which will add value. 
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assesses and supports the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements. 
  • Proactively supports, encourages and facilitates staff to engage in continuous improvement activities. 

Preferred Qualifications

6+ years in an Transmision & Distribution, O&G Construction environment. Prefer candidates who are very knowledgeable with line work.

  • Knowledge of company substance abuse policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of construction contracting strategies and contract administration
  • Knowledge of insurance program administration including owner-controlled and contractor-controlled insurance programs
  • Knowledge of worker's compensation policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and company and client programs, procedures
  • Knowledge of security risk and control processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of company safety consultation capabilities and ability to perform as a consultant
  • Ability to effectively interface with client and government officials

Minimum Qualifications

6+ years in a Transmission & Distribution construction environment, 6+ years construction safety training experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
