Department Summary:

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) cares for pediatric patients ranging in age from zero to 18 who are being treated for Level 1 trauma, respiratory, sepsis, burn, transplant, GI/GU, cardiovascular, oncology, neurology, neurosurgical, and an overall wide range of medical diagnoses. Our patients are unique because they are critically ill and require a highly motivated and skilled team.

Schedule:

6:45 pm to 7:15 am

All shifts rotate throughout the week, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with patient care such as turning, diaper changes, bathing, linen changes, etc.

  • Assist with patient transports

  • Set up rooms for admissions and for procedures

  • Take down rooms post patient discharge and prior to EVS clean

  • Act as runner for equipment and supplies during emergent events

  • Assist with postmortem care of patients

  • Check and record temp logs on refrigerators and warmers

  • Stock patient rooms and hallway isolation carts

  • Check patient rooms for equipment not being actively used - wipe down and return to proper areas

  • Check dirty utility and linen chute for PICU specific items, clean and return them to appropriate places

  • Fill bath wipe warmers and drawer underneath

  • Empty linen bags that are more than half full, leave empty linen bag + one extra in each room

  • Scan all documents to appropriate patients

  • Complete ID Band audits when requested

  • Transport used equipment to sterile processing

  • Call for trash pulls and room cleans as

  • Ensure hallways remain uncluttered

  • Ensure used procedure carts taken to be restocked

  • All other patient, nurse and provider duties as needed

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) AND one of the following:

Current enrollment in a program of professional nursing RN and successful completion of the first semester of nursing school to include nursing fundamentals clinical, or

Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (the certification is not mandatory but a certificate of completion is necessary), or

Minimum of one year of previous (and within the past two years) experience as a care partner or nursing assistant/patient care technician.
