About the role

Job Title

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will make a fundamental contribution to the innovation of products and processes within the Mechanical Engineering group.

You will provide technical guidance to teams and, when needed, personally take on the most complex development tasks. With your deep expertise, you solve fundamental problems, test new ideas for feasibility, and translate them into products that deliver value for our customers.

Together with on-site engineers and offshore partners, you guide the design, verification, and validation of the complete appliance end-to-end, ensuring robust and manufacturable solutions.

You will act as a technical counterpart to your group manager, program managers, marketing and designers, maintaining an overview of the entire professional field, inside and outside Philips. You also contribute to program and policy preparation and maintain strong connections with production centers, and other stakeholders.

Your role:

Technical Leadership

  • Formulate trade-off specifications in alignment with commercial requirements.
  • Lead the mechanical design of complete grooming and beauty appliances and their mechanical systems, supported by predictive analysis and calculations.
  • Guide and influence multidisciplinary project teams, helping colleagues grow and ensuring alignment across modules and components.
  • Keep oversight of the full appliance development cycle and contribute to program and policy preparation.
  • Design & Development
  • Select appropriate materials (plastics & metals) and manufacturing processes.
  • Create and review 3D and 2D designs that incorporate Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • Obtain parts, build prototypes, and lead verification and validation tests (protocols, data analysis, reporting).
  • Document and archive all design choices in line with quality standards (Design History File, Windchill).

Innovation & Collaboration

  • Lead ideation sessions and drive concept creation and decision making.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Procurement, Operations, and external partners.
  • Develop and improve test methods and tools, and perform future-oriented studies together with other specialists.
  • Capture, reuse, and share knowledge across the group, identifying and leading improvement projects.
  • You are a highly motivated, open-minded professional with strong hands-on skills and the ability to influence and elevate those around you.

You're the right fit if:

  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 7 years’ experience in mechanical product development.
  • Experience leading (international) multidisciplinary projects, preferably in consumer products.
  • Strong skills in 3D CAD (Creo) and familiarity with state-of-the-art development techniques.
  • Solid knowledge of plastic and metal design, including molding, tooling, and manufacturability aspects.
  • Ability to write requirements, develop designs, and test them effectively.
  • Hands-on ability to rapidly develop concepts and translate them into functional prototypes.
  • Proficiency in empirical and analytical methods to solve complex problems, including FEA/CFD (e.g. Ansys).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence and inspire individuals in a team.
  • A proactive, quality-driven, and innovative mindset, with experience in Design for Six Sigma (blackbelt certification is a plus).
  • Determination in decision making, independence, and strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent coordination and communication abilities (oral and written).
