About the role

Our partner company is seeking an Environmental Geophysicist/Geologist to work under the direction of a project geophysicist, site geophysicist, and project manager. The successful candidate will perform a variety of data collection tasks using geophysical and GPS equipment to support remedial investigation or removal action projects for Department of Defense clients at formerly used defense sites and active military installations with potential unexploded ordnance contamination.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, MPV, UltraTEM, and APEX data.
  • Collect and track instrument QC information.
  • Perform field and office tasks requiring the application of basic geophysical principles and theories.
  • Write geophysics sections of work plans and reports for CERCLA RI and remediation projects.
  • Perform anomaly reacquisition using EM61-MK2, G-858, and Real Time Kinematic GPS sensors.
  • Conduct or monitor daily quality control tests of equipment and methods and document test results.
  • Process EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, or MPV data using Geosoft's Oasis Montaj software.
  • Interpret geophysical data collected with the instruments listed above.
  • Collect soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater samples and prepare shipments to the laboratory.
  • Safely operate vehicles (large 4WD pick-up trucks) and transport co-workers and geophysical/GPS equipment and supplies to and from the site each day.
  • Safely operate utility vehicles (UTVs) and 4-wheeler vehicles.
  • Demonstrate good common sense on all safety-related matters and review and adhere to all aspects of the Site Health & Safety Plan (HASP) and sign the HASP signature page documenting the employee's understanding and agreement to follow the document.
  • Display strong decision-making capabilities and excellent oral and written communication skills to minimize the potential for accidents/injury to himself/herself and/or co-workers.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in geophysics, geology, or related field.
  • 0 to 3 years of work experience performing work in geophysics, geology, or a related field.
  • Experience with field geophysical data acquisition using the EM61-MK2, G-858, MetalMapper, or TEMTADS 2x2 sensors.
  • Experience with field geophysical data acquisition using RTK GPS equipment.
  • Experience with Geosoft's Oasis Montaj geophysical data processing software.
  • Experience using MS Access databases.
  • Will be required to obtain OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training upon start (at company expense).
