New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations.
Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market and select cultural markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.
Role Overview
- Serve as a life insurance competitive product expert, possessing a strong understanding of all aspects of life insurance products and the industry landscape.
- Provide individualized assistance to our career agency field force via phone, email and zoom. Support New York Life’s career Agency field force by analyzing competitive cases.
- Interact with New York Life Insurance Agents and Field Managers, as well as wholesalers to provide competitive case and industry analysis and make recommendations to win cases.
- Research and produce a variety of support documentation to assist agents in competitive sales situations. Stay abreast of industry news and regulations affecting the life insurance industry and monitory marketplace trends.
- Create educational content for Agents and Clients.
- Build out additional infrastructure to create new case processes.
- Work with leadership to develop KPI’s.
- Track and provide weekly and monthly reports on case work.
- Develop materials to communicate competitive issues and case studies.
- Disseminate appropriate information to Field and sales personnel.
- Consult with New York Life’s internal departments to gain updated industry and competitor information.
- Identify trends by product and/or geography and proactively provide actionable information to NYL agents.
- All other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Series 6 preferred.
- 5+ years in a competitive intelligence capacity or comparable Financial Services setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation skills.
- Must be analytical with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working under pressure, often dealing with short turn-around time and high profile or large premium cases.
- Strong knowledge of individual life insurance products.
- Understanding of career agency field operations and the life insurance sales process.
- Self-motivated individual with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong PC skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000
