JOB TITLE:  General Education Teacher

POSITION PURPOSE

The Academy at Greenfield-Central's goal is to reach 11th-12th grade students who are behind in credits and, thus, are at risk to not graduate. It serves a maximum of 60 students (30 morning + 30 afternoon), who attend in 3-hour sessions, either morning or afternoon.  Two full-time, onsite teachers assist students with all coursework, as needed.  A social worker is on staff to assist students with goal setting, job skills, social services, and behavioral support. Students also participate in soft-skill development including guest speakers, community service, and career skill development as part of their Academy programming.  Students can earn additional credits during the part of the day they do not attend The Academy by working, attending half the day at GCHS, and/or attending a Career Center.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides supervision of students in educational settings.
• Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
• Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Indiana teaching license for the assigned grade, level and/or subject(s).
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
