Schedule: M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm

Availability of Position: Immediately

Reports to: Corps Officer

Salary and Grade: 15, Exempt

Responsibilities

Position Overview: The function of the Business and Development Director (BDD) is to manage the financial and property functions of the York Citadel Salvation Army, as well as the fund development function, including soliciting major gifts, corporate gifts, foundations, grants, planned giving, and in-kind contributions, and overseeing oversee special events, additional special fundraising initiatives, and marketing.

 

Description of Position: 

  •  Responsible for the development of systematic promotion, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals within the defined programs and service area.
  • Develop, consistent with United Way guidelines, the systematic promotion, cultivation, and solicitation of all corporations with the geographic area served by the office(s) for which he/she is employed.
  • Develop, consistent with Salvation Army policy, proposals for local and area foundations, relating to program development, enhancement, and continuity.
  • Ensure compliance with the terms of grants and contributions, as well as submit reports as required.
  • Identify, with supervisory officer, various programs and services which should be perpetuated through the development of funds and actively cultivate gifts to establish and maintain the program(s).
  • Promote The Salvation Army’s planned giving program, including engaging in the indemnification of prospects, cultivating donors, and referring viable prospects to the Divisional Planned Giving Director to cooperatively devise and execute agreements. Primary cultivation shall be in terms of gift annuities and endowments.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of community, employee and public interest groups, as well as plan and direct development and communication of informational programs to maintain favorable public perceptions of the organization's accomplishments.
  • Ensure any outside clubs, organizations, etc. complete all necessary paperwork as prescribed by the Salvation Army for property usage.
  • Oversee all aspects of planning and implementation of special events and fundraising initiatives to include budget and review of effectiveness.
  • Market the programs and services offered through social media, websites, local media, etc. while upholding the integrity of The Salvation Army’s brand and abiding by branding policies.
  • Under the direction of the Corps Officer, serve as The Salvation Army's representative on community boards.
  • Be available as a speaker for churches, community clubs and groups, and United Way.
  • Assist with special events, such as the Education First Rally, Labor Day Parade, Cropwalk, National Night Out, Light Up Night and Kettle Kick off.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local and municipal government officials and media representatives, as well as confer with labor relations managers to develop internal communications that keep employees informed of company activities.
  • Oversee budgets within The Salvation Army’s work in York, as well as work with Department Heads, the Finance Committee of Advisory Board, and the Advisory Board to ensure the budget is ready to send to DHQ after the June Board Meeting.
  • Oversee the Finance Clerk and communicate with the Divisional Bookkeeper, making sure any and all financial reports are done in a timely manner.
  • Complete and submit reports and correspondence, as needed, for United Way, SECA CFA other funding sources.
  • Ensure proper statistics are kept for each associated program and that timely reports are available for the Advisory Board, DHQ, United Way and other funding agencies,
