BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; OR have completed a formal vocational training program; OR have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment rather than continuing education. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) 2. Work experience as an automotive worker in performing automotive repairs to include removing, replacing, and adjusting defective parts or components. ASE certification or equivalent preferred. 3. Must have a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a government license for trucks, tow trucks, and forklifts. 4. Ability to use high-tech diagnostic tools and diagnose defects in automotive equipment. 5. Ability to perform basic clerical duties to include use of cash register, personal computer, and preparation of simple forms and reports. Ability to use a data management computer system to look up vehicle repair history and enter work order information. 6. Ability to read, understand, and apply information from service manuals (including electronic service manuals), diagnostic aids, flow charts, charts, and graphs. 7. Ability use various hand power tools, automotive tools and servicing equipment such as an air conditioning recycler, hydraulic jack, brake lathe, emission analyzer, various welding machines, and other related equipment. 8. Must have ability to lift arms above shoulder level to install and remove auto parts; bend or stoop and remain standing repeatedly over time to repair equipment; move objects weighing more than 40 pounds distances 20 feet or less. 9.Initiative to continue training in the latest knowledge and techniques of the trade. To be hired at Grade-7, candidate must have either one ASE or ASE-equivalent automotive certification -or- an active tow truck license. To be hired at Grade-8, candidate must both an ASE or ASE-equivalent automotive certification -and- an active tow truck license, and must have the following knowledge: 1.Knowledge of how vehicles¿ complex components work and interact. Ability to work with electronic diagnostic equipment and digital manuals and reference materials, integrated electronic systems and complex computers regulate vehicles and their performance while on the road. 2. Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of automotive mechanic trade; automotive systems including but not limited to steering, suspension, brakes, engines, transmissions, drive axles, fuel, cooling, electrical, and engine and body control systems; the occupational hazards and standard safety precautions of the automotive mechanic trade.
