Term Instructor, Journalism

Description

The School of Communication at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment in the Journalism Division beginning January 1, 2018. Rank and length of initial contract will be based on experience and available funding for the position.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD or other graduate degree and substantial professional experience related to journalism, mass communication and the following specific position descriptions and requirements.  The position will require the successful applicant to teach three undergraduate or master’s degree courses per semester in journalism and mass communication or video broadcasting, including, but not limited to, sports, media entrepreneurship and management, videography, documentary making and reporting breaking news. The successful applicant should have college-level teaching experience with proof of teaching effectiveness, at least five years of professional on-air broadcast sports and news reporting in a diverse market, as well as substantial editing, recording and production experience. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
