General Description

The Facilities Maintenance Apprentice supports the upkeep and repair of buildings, systems, and equipment across a facility. Under the guidance of an experienced Facilities Instructor, this entry-level role assists with routine maintenance tasks, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building upkeep. The apprentice gains hands-on experience and training to develop skills to move into the Maintenance I role. Effectively supports ongoing and collaborative communication amongst all program staff and is responsible for ensuring a trauma informed care environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with performing preventive maintenance on equipment and building systems.
  • Supports minor repairs in areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
  • Helps inspect facilities for safety and maintenance issues.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintenance tools.
  • Shadows experienced technicians and follow instructions to learn trade skills.
  • Completes assigned tasks accurately and on time under supervision.
  • Documents maintenance activities and report issues to supervisors.
  • Participates in relevant Agency meetings and/or training courses.
  • Actively pursues development of professional competencies related to job performance through reading, supervision, in-service training and attendance at conferences and workshops.
  • Awareness and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. Including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver License and use of reliable vehicle.
  • Willingness to learn and develop trade skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in maintenance work.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and perform tasks involving manual labor.
