An opportunity has arisen for a Sr. Data Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Supply (PSCS) Organization. The role will be essential in establishing and ensuring our organizations realization of our digital transformation strategy. Further, the successful candidate will provide centralized support and expertise to teams across Research Laboratories. Our projects focus on key areas of interest to multiple teams: implementing modern digital solutions for research and development and plant operations, platform development using modern architecture, building end-to-end solutions to capture, contextualize, and generate insights from data, and establishing best practices to provide solutions to otherwise intractable problems faced by the business. Our team ensures the scientific community at our company is well-positioned to rapidly meet the challenges encountered within modern pharmaceutical sciences and clinical supply organizations. We challenge ourselves to chart the course of digital transformation within our organization.
In this role you will work with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and IT to broadly shape and lead our identification and internalization of tools to create, capture, ingest, integrate, and consume data across various domains supporting PSCS. You will apply state of the art data science technology platforms to build and deploy operational solutions that span the scientific, executional, compliance, and operations spaces. Your responsibilities will include develop and maintain tools to support our clinical drug product manufacturing sites, building dashboards and exploratory visualizations to support decision making and KPI tracking across our division, working with IT to support production solution implementation, building end-to-end digital solutions within PSCS, and supporting change management. Systems for manufacturing execution, laboratory data, workflow execution, IoT and cloud computing self-service data visualizations, data engineering, and KPI tracking are all in scope of this role.
Reporting into the Oral Formulation Sciences organization (OFS) the successful candidate will bring energy, knowledge, innovation to carry out the following:
Lead Interactions with the scientific and operations functions to identify, catalogue, develop and characterize use cases and value generating digital opportunities for the respective business areas.
Support the evaluation and planed execution of digital projects.
Manage a portfolio of digital projects and dashboards.
Independently and in teams build, test, and deploy end-to-end digital solutions for laboratory and business process data.
Serve as a subject matter expert on data science, data engineering and statistical analysis.
Build, develop, and grow the data science capabilities for both our data science staff and our functional area scientific staff via training, coaching, and mentoring.
Drive and support a self-service data science mindset in our organization.
Deliver on the organizational initiatives and projects.
Help operationalize numerous models across the organization, provide guidance and training to development and data scientists.
Support voice of the customer surveys, business case development, and productionalization processes.
Set the standard with IT for exploratory data analysis.
Required experience and skills:
A PhD (with expected graduation by October 2025) with a minimum of 0+ years’ experience, 5 years’ (for MSc) or 9 years’ (for BSc) in academia, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or physical sciences-based company
Education and or related experience in the physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Material Sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related).
Demonstrated experience with the mechanics of training and deploying data based or first principles models.
Broad knowledge of data pipelines and statistics, with the ability to deep dive as well as converse at high technical level with architects and senior scientists.
Expertise in data engineering, data science, Machine Learning, or statistical modeling, and coding (Advanced Python and related programming skills, R, Matlab, …)
