Description

NexGen Data Systems, Inc. seeks a skilled and motivated AWS Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic cloud team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in cloud computing, specifically with Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, and a passion for implementing scalable, secure, and robust cloud solutions. You will be crucial in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting native cloud services in multiple projects.


Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure cloud architecture using DoD (Department of Defense) approved AWS native services.
  • Develop cloud architectural diagrams, documentation, and best practices for cloud engineering analysis and data migration solutions.
  • Collaborate with development and project teams to integrate cloud solutions with existing data center on-premise systems.
  • Automate the deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and scaling of cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Manage and optimize AWS resources including EC2, S3, EBS storage volumes, RDS, Lambda, VPC, AWS Backup, and IAM.
  • Implement and troubleshoot AWS networking services such as Transit Gateway (TGW), routing, security groups (SGs), and Network Access Control Lists (NACLs).
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like AWS CodePipeline or GitLab CI.
  • Ensure the security and compliance of cloud infrastructure by implementing best practices and following DoD secure cloud rules and guidelines. 
  • Implement and manage identity and access management policies, encryption, and other security measures.
  • Monitor cloud environments for security breaches and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure the reliability and availability of cloud infrastructure for mission owners. 
  • Optimize cloud resources for cost-efficiency and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud and data center infrastructure-related issues and provide support to multiple support teams as needed. 
  • Work closely with development and project teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of cloud solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior cloud engineers and other team members.
  • Stay updated with the latest AWS features, services, and best practices and share knowledge with the team.

Requirements

Desired/Required Skills: 

  • Hybrid position. Candidates must be located in the Charleston, SC area or willing to relocate and wok on-site one day per week.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering with a focus on AWS or AWS GovCloud.
  • Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, AWS Backup, CloudFormation, and Terraform.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts including VPC, VPN, DNS, Edge locations, and load balancing.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining VDI and EUC services such as Amazon AppStream 2.0 and Amazon Workspaces.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, Git, and CodeCommit) and practices.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) and data server migration strategies.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server administration and/or Linux (RedHat Enterprise Linux) administration.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government information assurance and protection standards and data classification levels. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Capable of organizing, tracking, and managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • 8570 compliance required IAT Level II (Sec+ and OS Certification).
  • Active secret level government clearance or higher required.
