ABOUT THIS ROLE

Apex Fintech Solutions is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to drive the evolution of its cutting-edge Margin product—a vital component of the Apex Ascend platform. This role focuses on architecting and delivering mission-critical features for real-time buying power calculations and scalable applications and services. As a Staff Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced environment, leveraging modern cloud-native solutions and driving the development of innovative backend systems while influencing technology decisions across teams.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Backend Engineering: Architect, implement, deploy, and maintain high-performance backend systems using Java to support Margin product functionality and scalability.   

• Microservices Development: Design and manage containerized microservices with Kubernetes and Docker, ensuring scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.   

• Cloud-Native Solutions: Build and optimize infrastructure leveraging Google Cloud Platform and related services such as Google Pub/Sub.   

• Distributed Systems: Develop scalable, event-driven systems utilizing Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and PostgreSQL.   

• API Development: Create secure, reliable gRPC and REST APIs for internal and external integration.   

• Data Handling: Utilize relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, for backend services that require efficient storage, querying, and transaction processing in Java-based systems.   

• Problem Solving and Optimization: Diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges, optimizing system performance, availability, scalability, and maintainability.   

• Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively within geographically distributed teams, explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and fostering alignment on architecture and development strategies.   

• Leadership: Provide guidance to the engineering team, mentor junior developers, and drive key projects to successful delivery. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning.   

• System Design and Architecture: Contribute to and influence architectural decisions, ensuring alignment with scalability, security, and cross-team development strategies.   

Education and/or Experience

• BA, BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related technology field (or equivalent work experience) required

• 12+ years of experience in backend development, including designing, implementing, and maintaining distributed systems and large-scale microservices.   

• Proven experience leading technical teams and mentoring junior or mid-level developers in a collaborative environment. 

• Certifications in Java, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud) preferred
