Under the direction of the Manager of Pharmacy Services, the Supervising Coordinator, Pharmacy Technician Operations provides day-to-day oversight of pharmacy technical operations and systems, supervises technical staff, and leads initiatives to optimize quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and staff development. This role assumes responsibility for staffing, scheduling, training, and performance evaluation of pharmacy technicians while partnering closely with pharmacy leadership on budget, resource management, quality initiatives, and customer satisfaction.Pay Range: $55,931 - $87,256 per year
Employment Type: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks.
Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred, Licensed Pharmacy Technician with the State of Michigan required, Minimum 3 years of pharmacy technician experience required, with 1 or more years in a lead or supervisory role preferred, Proficiency with pharmacy systems, billing, and automation platforms required.
LEADERSHIP AND STAFF SUPERVISION
- Provides direct supervision to both the Pharmacy Technician team and the Anesthesia Technicians, ensuring clear role expectations, accountability, and performance management.
- Serves as a mentor, role model, and resource for pharmacy technical staff.
- Conducts performance reviews, provides regular feedback, and manages performance improvement plans in partnership with leadership and HR.
- Participates in hiring, orientation, onboarding, and ongoing competency validation.
- Leads technician meetings and daily huddles; ensures timely dissemination of department updates and policies.
OPERATIONS AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- Oversees scheduling, shift assignments, and timekeeping to ensure proper staffing coverage.
- Ensures adherence to departmental policies, regulatory requirements (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS), and best practices.
- Collaborates on strategic staffing plans, workload distribution, and budget optimization.
- Partners with leadership in developing and implementing the departmental budget and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND COMPLIANCE
- Supports development and execution of quality improvement initiatives and audits related to medication distribution, sterile compounding, controlled substances, and billing accuracy.
- Maintains pharmacy systems in alignment with regulatory standards, conducting ongoing process evaluations and system testing.
- Leads technical aspects of Joint Commission readiness, internal audits, and performance tracking.
TECHNOLOGY AND SYSTEMS OVERSIGHT
- Serves as primary liaison for pharmacy automation and informatics systems (e.g., Pyxis ES, RX Inspect, Pandora).
- Oversees software configuration, interface maintenance, testing, training, and user support.
- Ensures timely updates and integrity of electronic medication records and pharmacy billing systems.
- Coordinates with IT and informatics teams on new system implementations and upgrades.
CUSTOMER AND STAFF ENGAGEMENT
- Routinely gathers feedback from patients, staff, and providers to identify service improvement opportunities.
- Resolves staff concerns and customer issues in a timely, professional manner.
- Supports a positive work environment and promotes staff satisfaction and retention strategies.
PROJECT AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
- Participates in departmental and cross-functional projects and committees.
- Assists leadership in strategic planning, policy development, and implementation of initiatives that advance pharmacy operations.
