Job Description

The Sr Director, Pharmaceutical Trade Relations is responsible for managing Prime’s Trade Relations program(s) for medical and pharmacy formulary and market access strategies and all related partner/customer relationships including pharmaceutical manufacturers. The Sr Director, Pharm Trade Relations leads a team of directors and/or Sr directors and is accountable for the creation and execution of programs and solutions that drive strategic product decisions, pharmaceutical manufacturer contract decisions, and related client messaging. This position is also responsible for analyzing and enhancing contract performance, negotiations, agreement execution, training of internal teams and driving outcome value to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the oversight of Trade formulary strategies for Commercial, Exchange, Medicare Part D and/or Medicaid template formularies, including items such as manufacturer and GPO negotiation, rate and utilization management policy creation and interpretation, formulary modeling and pull through execution activities.
  • Lead and provide oversight of efforts related to Prime’s Group Purchasing Organization's (GPO) ensuring effective communication and strategic collaboration with GPO for all strategies including rebate bid analysis.
  • Manage external and internal relationships necessary to position products and solutions within the market or with pharmaceutical manufacturers; represent company objectives and perspective to external partners (i.e., pharmaceutical manufacturers, clients, marketplace, medical professionals, etc.); including ensuring manufacturers’ products are brought forth internally to evaluate rebate and formulary opportunities for Prime’s business
  • Support client alignment and adoption of strategies; providing direction in messaging and pull-through of strategies with internal stakeholders.
  • Develop strategic contracts such as Outcomes / Value based contracts.
  • Serve as a department resource for escalated client issues, contract analysis, and contract language needs in rebate contracting.
  • Serve as a government affairs expert including providing support to Prime’s gov’t affairs team and lobbyists, maintaining an elevated level of understanding of policy and legislative changes.
  • Provide Trade expertise sales throughout the bid and RFP process, including strategic direction of bid competitive positioning, oversight of rate forecasting, and present to prospect clients as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare management or other related field of study or equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience; HS diploma or GED is required.
  • 10 years of related work experience in healthcare, pharmacy benefit management (PBM), pharmaceutical sales, analytical contracting or business development; also to include: 4 years Trade / Rebates, or formulary development experience
  • 5 years people management/leadership experience

Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for work visa or residency sponsorship

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong presenter with excellent oral and written presentation skills, with demonstrated communication and financial presentation skills to all levels of management.
  • Ability to establish trust, rapport, and build close working relationships at all levels within all levels of Prime
  • Expert negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and negotiating contract language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science Pharmacy Degree, or other related advanced degree
  • Extensive experience within the PBM industry, Medicaid, Medicare, and health plans
  • Familiarity with contract language and risk mitigation concepts
  • Experience with rebates, drug spend and formulary strategies
