Description

The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma School of Music seeks a dedicated full time, 12 month, renewable-term, Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands to join a band program long known for its vibrant and comprehensive ensemble offerings and undergraduate and graduate conducting curriculum.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting with the creative planning process, teaching, and administration of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, leading and coordinating the Sound of the Sooners Basketball Bands, conducting a Campus Band, and teaching courses in music education and/or conducting as assigned. The ideal candidate will also serve on committees as deemed appropriate by the SOM. Actively engage with regional secondary school educators, maintain an active conducting/creative activity presence, and contribute to School, College, and University service.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

Masters degree in music and a record of successful teaching at the secondary and/or university levels with an emphasis on the specific skills required to successfully teach and administer a highly-visible and successful marching band.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

ABD or earned doctorate preferred. Demonstrated skills in drill design, music arranging, and developing a strong visual program. We are especially interested in candidates who will help cultivate a collaborative atmosphere in our band program and who can contribute, through their teaching, performing, and service, to the excellence of the academic community and who will work to build relationships with other departments within the College and the University.
