In the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago, we strive to provide the highest level of complex care for children from diagnosis and treatment to conducting research to find promising new therapies with a focus on teaching. The Section of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics strives to become a Center of Excellence in the complex diagnosis and management for diverse disabilities with origin in childhood, which include children with motor, communicative, sensory, developmental, genetic, neurological, learning, behavior, and feeding disorders. The Section plays important roles in supporting children who are survivors of neonatal intensive care and pediatric intensive care critical illness. As coordinated family-centered population health care is the transforming principle for future health financing initiatives, the Section is uniquely positioned to address care coordination, management pathways, and collaboration with community providers to advance both the quality and value of efforts to improve outcomes for vulnerable child disability populations with a spectrum of developmental and behavioral disorders.

Job Summary
 

The Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care, in collaboration with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification, management, and/or referral of health problems.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and formulate plan of care in collaboration with physician, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the Credentials Committee. 

• Communicate follow-up plan/disposition with the follow-up health care provider. 

• Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies according to protocol. 

• Demonstrate in-depth understanding of current professional and legal trends, concepts, and issues related to practice. 

• Identify educational needs of family members and assist with teaching as appropriate. 

• Ensure that appropriate systems and resources are in place to maintain established standards of care. 

• Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care. 

• Participate in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures. 

• May participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians. 

• Interprets assessments, treatments, outcomes, work and disability status, and screenings in a thorough manner. Maintains clear and concise records for individual and corporate clients to meet the requirements of the department, the company and any applicable standards or laws. 

• Analyzes test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment. 

• Has a solid understanding about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies. 

• Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family, and the organization. 

• Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care. 

• Performs other related work as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications 

 

Education: 

• Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
