JOB SUMMARY: 

As a Senior Investment Accountant at CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, you will work across a mix of asset classes to provide timely and accurate investment data and investment accounting for our $2B+ endowment. Your work will drive how we manage a mix of investment portfolios, including accurate accounting and recording of investments, monitoring third-party activity, preparing tax documents, and providing financial reporting for internal management and Board reporting.

 PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Collaborate across the Finance team to deliver excellent service and support in the management, accounting and reporting of our investment portfolio.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all financial and accounting reports and records, ensuring that reports, deliverables, and processes are executed in accordance with GAAP, statutory regulations and/or internal guidelines.
  • Responsible for investment accounting and reporting including performing monthly/quarterly reconciliations and supporting closing processes.
  • Manage workflows to ensure accurate data capture and inform stakeholders of missing or incomplete information.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and the competitive landscape to provide insights, recommendations, and process improvements.
  • Support the Finance team on accounting and reporting matters relating to taxes, general accounting, and other financial reporting matters.
  • Record and reconcile all investment transactions, including capital calls, distributions, dividends, interest, realized and unrealized gains and losses, management fees, and cash.
  • Assemble, or if performed by outside service providers, review monthly and quarterly financial statements for underlying fund investments.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, custodians, investment managers, and consultants to ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with portfolio guidelines as set forth in the Investment Policy Statements
  • Analyze and monitor the endowment portfolio's asset allocation, liquidity, risk, and returns, and provide recommendations and insights to senior management.
  • Assist in preparing the federal and state tax returns and other filing forms for CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, Inc. and affiliates.
  • Monitor third-party investment activities to review for creditworthiness and impairment.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

 JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management with 4 – 7 years of investment accounting experience within an investment management firm, large non-profit, foundation, or endowment
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and IRS regulations related to investments
  • Proficient in Excel and other accounting software to track investments, prepare taxes, and complete financial reporting.
  • CPA preferred.

Skills:

  • Statistical analysis – able to compare, analyze, and summarize investments to help management make informed decisions.
  • Financial Reporting: advanced knowledge of the accounting for public equities and bonds, private equity and venture capital partnerships, hedge funds, and various other alternative investment structures.
  • Research Skills: experience in conducting independent research through regulatory, legal, and accounting databases.
  • Analytical and Critical-Thinking Skills: highly skilled in evaluating financial data and critically assessing investment activity.
  • Communication Skills: Possess clear oral and written communication skills to effectively work with a variety of stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Organizational Skills: able to track important documents, meet reporting deadlines, and other key deliverables.
  • Detail Oriented: Exhibits a high attention to detail.
