Duties, Responsibilities & Other
The Senior Project Manager for Pavement Engineering at KCI will lead and perform pavement and geotechnical engineering, pavement management, pavement condition assessment and non-destructive testing, pavement modeling, analysis and design, and subsurface investigations, for a wide range of highway infrastructure, transportation, and civil engineering projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, project coordination, and leadership in delivering high-quality engineering solutions ensuring alignment with local, federal/state regulations and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and perform geotechnical and pavement field investigations, and engineering evaluations.
- Lead pavement design and construction for highways, roads, and transportation projects ensuring alignment with local and state DOT’s quality standards and federal/state regulations.
- Apply AASHTO, FHWA, MDOT SHA, MDTA, and other state DOT standards for pavement materials, thickness, and structural design.
- Serve as engineer-of-record or senior technical reviewer
- Coordinate and integrate pavement design with drainage, traffic, structures, and utilities.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control of pavement analysis, design, reports, plans, and deliverables.
- Conduct field observations and reviews to validate existing pavement conditions and design intent.
- Apply use of non-destructive testing and geophysical techniques (FWD, GPR/3D-GPR, Windshield and PCI Survey) for pavement and subsurface characterization.
- Perform pavement engineering evaluations and develop pavement design recommendations, and cross-sections.
- Use 2D/3D modeling tools (OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation) to ensure compliance with state design manuals (e.g., SCDOT) Simplify Jobs.
- Prepare and review pavement engineering reports and technical documentation for projects including highways and transportation infrastructure, and other civil works.
- Provide pavement engineering support during construction, including review of field conditions, responding to RFIs, and evaluating contractor submittals.
- Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring pavement projects.
- Support project management activities including scope development, cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring project progress.
- Lead preparation of technical and cost proposals for pavement and geotechnical services.
- Mentoring and training junior engineers in pavement design methodologies and software workflows.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, client representatives, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
