POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) has ultimate responsibility for the information systems/technology and functions within the company and serves as a key member of the executive team. The CIO is responsible for providing leadership and developing the overall strategy for the information systems and technology of the company with particular emphasis on effective business infrastructure, technological innovation and cybersecurity to support furthering the company’s goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops and executes a comprehensive technology strategy designed to meet the company’s business objectives that maintains operational efficiency. Establishes short and long-term goals for information management/processing systems that includes determining computers/peripherals, hardware/software and networking needs.
• Partners and collaborates with other C-suite executives to define, develop and execute enterprise-wide technology strategies that drive business growth, leveraging exceptional communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into compelling business value propositions and build consensus around transformative digital initiatives that enable scalable processes and systems across the organization.
• Identifies and oversees implementation of technological systems/platforms/changes to ensure operational efficiency and improved internal processes that will positively influence MSD’s business.
• Develops policies that govern informational security, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining IS/IT budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation for the company.
• Directs and monitors managers in the accomplishment of department's goals consistent with established policies and procedures.
• Acts as liaison between executive management and subordinate levels to inform staff of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
• Oversees the identification, development, and mentorship of new hires and current staff. Provides input into identification of high performers to groom for potential succession planning.
• Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, and provides continuous feedback and recognition on performance.
• Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
• Stays abreast of emerging technology trends, best practices and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Oversees vendor management, contract negotiations, and ensures that external partnerships align with the company's technological goals and compliance standards.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree or higher in business administration, information technology, computer science and/or related field, preferably a combination of fields.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible leadership roles within information technology.
• A minimum of ten years of management experience.
• Previous experience working in a life sciences/biotechnology and/or clinical diagnostic organization, which included manufacturing of -instrumentation and bio-consumables strongly preferred.
• Previous experience supporting a global sales and support staff ideally leveraging SFDC strongly preferred.
• Previous experience in managing a hybrid computing environment between onsite and cloud-based computing leveraging Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating environments strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proven record of accomplishment of leading IS/IT initiatives that leverage new technologies to automate/ innovative streamlined processes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build consensus around complex technical initiatives.
• Deep understanding of information technology and computer systems, including cloud computing, cybersecurity and networking.
• Deep knowledge of information systems used in optimizing and automating business processes across the entire company, for example, but not limited to, Enterprise Resource Planning, Product Lifecycle Management, Quality Management, Document Management, Payroll and Tax Management, HR Support, Legal Systems, and others
• Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes, as well as the ability to translate strategic thinking into action plans and related outcomes.
